The World Ocean Headquarters will focus on five areas of action.
Ocean science
Improving knowledge, filling the gaps and sharing the findings
Ocean governance
Developing evidence-based policy and strengthening regulatory frameworks
Ocean technology
Creating space for innovators to develop, test and demonstrate their technologies
Ocean business
Creating commercial, scalable, sustainable solutions for increasing the economic value of ocean-based industries
Ocean finance
Providing new technology and business solutions for the sustainable ocean economy with venture capital to grow
Each area of action will include a range of activities across established and emerging industries that are impacting the ocean, including aquaculture, offshore oil and gas, marine renewable energy, maritime transport, fisheries and deep-seabed mining. Measuring the environmental, social and economic impact of the World Ocean Headquarters will be based on key performance indicators, including improved status of key ocean indicators, number of solutions developed, research achievements, innovation projects and number of events hosted. The assessment will be conducted both through internal reporting mechanisms, as well as through regular external reviews.
