New Chief Operating Officer (COO) position available at REV Ocean

The Chief Operating Officer (COO) holds a critical leadership role on the management team and is responsible for ensuring the efficient and effective operation of the REV Ocean organization. The COO will, in close collaboration with the CEO, oversee the overall implementation of the REV Ocean strategy, workplans, procedures and activities, and the successful execution of REV Ocean’s mission to translate scientific knowledge into actionable ocean solutions. The COO is second in command, and in the absence of the CEO all members of the management team report to the COO.

Responsibilities:

Organizational Operations

  • Overseeing all aspects of REV Ocean’s day-to-day operations, including finance, human resources, administration, and logistics.
  • Implementing strategic plans to optimize organizational efficiency and effectiveness.
  • In close cooperation with the CFO and Operational Director, make sure REV Ocean develops its commercial activities to ensure a sustainable business model.
  • In close cooperation with the Operational Director, oversee that appropriate procedures for the successful operation of the vessel are established.
  • Collaborating closely with the Science Department to develop strategies to bridge the gap between scientific insights and real-world applications for ocean conservation and sustainability.

Resource Management

  • Efficiently managing human and financial resources to support REV Ocean’s mission and operational objectives.
  • Identifying opportunities for cost optimization and resource allocation, incl. use of AI and new digital tools.

Collaboration

  • Establishing, nurturing, and enhancing collaboration with external organizations, research institutions, and industry stakeholders to advance REV Ocean’s research and advocacy goals.

Innovation and Technology

  • Staying abreast of emerging technologies and methodologies relevant to ocean research and conservation and integrating them into REV Ocean’s operations.
  • This includes innovation in office management and AI types of tools.

Reporting and Accountability

  • Providing regular updates to the CEO and Board of Directors on organizational operations and progress in translating science into actionable solutions.
  • Managing the International Advisory Board and making sure we use this forum to our best advantage.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Commitment to REV Ocean’s mission and values.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in business administration, management, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in executive leadership roles, preferably as a COO or in a similar capacity.
  • Strong understanding of ocean conservation and sustainability issues.
